Conflict Minerals

CONFLICT MINERALS – MOTION GRAPHIC EXPLAINER VIDEO AND ANIMATION

Conflict Minerals aims to raise awareness about the issue of conflict minerals, specifically in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Conflict minerals refer to minerals that are mined in areas controlled by armed groups, who use the proceeds from the sale of these minerals to fund their activities, often through human rights abuses and other forms of violence. These minerals include tin, tantalum, tungsten and gold (commonly referred to as 3TG) which are used in a wide range of everyday products such as smartphones, computers, cars and jewellery.

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, the mining of these minerals has been a major source of funding for armed groups, fueling ongoing conflict and human rights abuses in the region. The mining of these minerals often takes place in the midst of ongoing fighting, with the mineral trade controlled by armed groups who use the proceeds to purchase weapons and finance their activities. The mining is often done using forced labour, and the workers, particularly children, are subjected to hazardous working conditions. This kind of mining also has significant environmental impacts, such as deforestation and pollution.

As a result, the goal of the project was to bring attention to the issue of conflict minerals in the DRC and the wider impact it has on human lives and the environment, using animation and motion graphics to create an engaging and informative video about this important topic. The software used for this project could include Cinema4D, Adobe After Effects and other 3D software and compositing software.
